What comes around goes around in the Boston Center for the Arts' unprecedented double feature gallery exhibition organized by the BCA’s Curator of Visual Arts, José Luis Blondet.

Strange Loops gathers a group of artists, the majority from the Boston area, whose practice explores abstraction and structures with no beginning or end. The exhibit includes drawings, sculptures, paintings and video that play with the notion of an endless relation between abstraction and figuration, language and image, finite and infinite structures – often shaking our perception.

Strange Loops artists include: Eve Essex, Tatyana Gubash, Peter Hoss, Alicia Mihai Gazcue, Fred Muram, Matthew Rich, Karen Schiff, and John Schulz.

Running concurrently in the Mills Gallery is the Boston premiere of Matinee/Matiné, from internationally recognized Argentinian artist Liliana Porter. In this, her latest video, kitschy figurines star in a series of vignettes that humorously challenge the limits of fiction and representation.

Visual Thinking: Texture Portraits

Down To Size

The inaugural student works project exhibition, Down to Size investigates the production of small works within a culture constantly seeking to super-size. To be sure, popular culture isn't alone in its frenzy for excess. Bigger as better has long been the refrain of the art world, institutions, galleries, and museums. What, then, is the place of diminutive art?
