  • Welcome to the
    AIB Foundation Blog!

This blog is focused on the Freshman experience during their Foundation year at AIB, life in and outside of school. New content will be added daily. We encourage student participation, content submissions, and any other suggestions that you may have to help make the blog better.

We hope the blog becomes a place to build the AIB community and a source for all things creative during your AIB experience.

    About the AIB
    Foundation Program

During your "foundation year," you learn and become proficient in the basics—from a professional artist's perspective. That means, for example, you don't only practice (and practice) drawing the world around you, you learn how to think about what you experience and observe, about how artists' perceptions of the world have influenced your own perceptions. The Foundation Year gives you invaluable perspective on what it means to be an artist. You will explore and expand your ways of seeing, drawing, and designing.

Tiffany Mallery

1. Hi, my name's Tiffany. My hometown in Antioch, IL, I'm an illustration major, and I like to read, shop, explore, and eat. I also like to talk about dreams (like from sleep) and I like being busy. Although having time for naps isn't bad either.

2. I'm influenced by a lot of art from the Renaissance. I like illustrations that kind of meld figurative realism with some sort of surreal abstraction. One of my favorite artists from that time period is MIchelangelo; he truly mastered the human figure, in my opinion. Another inspiring artist would have to be Picasso; he was a visionary. As far as illustration goes, Lane Smith, who illustrated books like The Stinky Cheese man has definitely inspired me in developing a style...which is still being developed, haha.

3. Although I'm excited for a lot of art classes in the coming years, like anatomy and figure drawing (I love anatomy!), I'm kind of pumped for the liberal arts classes that I can take. I'm so overwhelmed by the possibilities, it's kind of awesome. I love the idea of being able to take regular courses at Lesley because as much as I love art, it's nice to have a mental break with a normal class. I mean, I'm definitely planning on having a literature minor, or something else in the liberal arts.

4. I want to be able to know Boston so well that I can throw around short cuts and direct lost tourists like it's no big deal and without hesitation, haha. It might take a while; I have a terrible sense of direction.

5. The Hangover. It's a classic.

2. The type of art that Im influenced by is Graffiti because of how that art on buildings or trains, basically any where can be shown to anyone that passes by and gives a strong sign about what the person who made it, to symbolize something, and its like art, you give what people wouldn't see on a regular bases and show everybody to get your word out.

3. The class that I am excited about is Print Making for next year cause I know a little about print making but i would like to expand it.

4. One thing I would like to do while in Boston is tour around, and find places I have never seen but in a different view.

5. My favorite movie is Step Up 3D.
