Two weeks, zero boundaries in the BCA’s Cyclorama features Art Institute of Boston faculty
BOSTON, MA – The Art Institute of Boston is pleased to announce that one of its instructors was selected to create an installation for CycSpecific at the BCA: All Things Transformative in the historic Cyclorama at the Boston Center for the Arts. Peter Hoss, who has been an instructor of drawing at the Art Institute since 2003, has recruited five students to assist with his installation.
CycSpecific at the BCA brings two weeks of visual and performing arts to one of Boston’s most unique venues from February 18 to 27. A site-specific installation in the historic Cyclorama, the event features dance, live music, sound sculptures, spoken word, experimental performance and more.
Peter Hoss’ work is about the abstraction of the natural and urban landscape. The inspiration for his latest work came during a trip to a local recycling plant where materials of all kinds were collected and melted or otherwise processed to be reused. Hoss was struck with the beauty in the random clutter of discarded debris. In his new work, he moves on from drawing the forms and structures to assembling them.
“This concept evolved from my recent collages,” says Peter Hoss of the project. “Although three-dimensional, I continue to deal with issues of size, shape, line, pattern, texture and color as I arrange and compile common, everyday, disposed-of items into a visual object.”
Peter Hoss will host a gallery talk on Monday, February 21 at noon in the Cyclorama. Hoss’s student assistants include Christopher Burbank, Matthew Doyle, Gerald Hastings, Danielle Kelly and Roxanna Minor.
