This is by no means an exhaustive list of all local internships, competitions, etc.  It is simply an archive of opportunities that have been compiled by various faculty and staff, or that have been to sent directly to AIB from companies looking to specifically recruit AIB students and alumni.

College Art Students (all disciplines) Wanted: urFirstLook

urFirstLook offers students a way to experience a major before entering college.

We are looking for a college student in any of the Arts and Design disciplines to go through a 5-day expose of their major with us. Your primary responsibility will be to instruct on one aspect of your major within those 5 days with a minimum of 2 hours for each day.

NOTICE: Updates on Project M in Belfast, Maine

PROJECT M
Project M is a program for young creative people who are already inspired to contribute to the greater good, and are looking for a platform to collaborate and generate ideas and projects bigger then themselves. 

FORMAT
Project M Belfast Blitz will be a 5 day long workshop session in Belfast, ME with 10–12 creative people starting March, 12th and finishing on March, 17st. The Project M Facilitator for this is Marc O’Brien. Ben Gaydos will be the AIB coordinator/Project M Facilitator.

THINKING WRONG
The human brain tends to think along predetermined linear thought pathways. Such linear thinking can inhibit true innovation and creative exploration. Project M will encourage, and provide techniques for “thinking wrong” to generate new ideas and design directions.

WHO SHOULD JOIN PROJECT M?
This workshop was developed for passionate young creative people. Students and professionals from any industries encourage to apply.

FEES
Project M is not a school and has no tuition. Every attending person will share the expenses of producing Project M. The expenses will be $600 each. Some M’ers have been very creative about raising this amount. Travel to and from Belfast, ME and incidental expenses are in addition to this amount. Housing, group meals, and project materials are included.

HOW TO APPLY?

2. Email Marc O’Brien at info@projectmlab.com by 2/20 with the subject line “Belfast Blitz”. In the email, please explain why you want to participate in this. He will contact the participates by 2/16 for more information about logistics and procedures.

The Newton Art Center Call to Artists and Curators

The New Art Center in Newton (NAC) is currently accepting proposals for exhibitions for 4 to 5 week exhibitions in the 2012-2013 exhibition cycle (September 2012 – May 2013) to be installed in the Main Gallery of the New Art Center in Newton.  The Center has a 33-year tradition of using the Main Gallery for group exhibitions (two persons or more) curated by an exhibiting artist or independent curator.  Since May 1991 we have continued this tradition through a public call for proposals.

Deadline and Dates:
The in-our-hands (not postmarked) deadline for the receipt of proposals is April 9, 2012.  There will be no extensions.  COP awards will be announced to the recipients in June of 2012.  If a SASE or packages with return postage is included, CDs will be mailed back by the end of June 2012.  No phone calls please.  
 
The New Art Center will determine the time slot for COP exhibitions.  Lack of scheduling flexibility must be stated in the application.

Sculpture builders needed

Message from Lesley professor:

Dear friends, students, and colleagues:

Nick Sayers (http://www.flickr.com/photos/nicksayers) will be showing his piece Hyperbolic Coffee Cactus (http://gizmodo.com/5820225/630-coffee-stirrers-and-1260-toothpicks-make-me-feel-woefully-inadequate) at Cade Tompkins Projects in Providence, RI, opening on February 10th. The trouble is that Nick is in the UK and the piece is too fragile to ship, so it has to be re-created here. Nick has been working hard, drilling 2520 holes into 630 coffee stirrers and cutting 1260 toothpicks in half. On Friday I'll be receiving this bounty and getting a lesson from Nick in how to assemble the sculpture. Then Nick and I need your help. We need to build 12 sections (of 55 stirrers each), and then get the 12 sections to the gallery in Providence on Wednesday, Feb 8th, for final assembly.

So I'm hosting an old-fashioned sculpture-raising. If you can help with the building, I'll be working on it outside of my office (1815 Mass Ave, University Hall, Room 2-132) at the following times:

Saturday 2/4, 2-5pm
Sunday 2/5, 3-7pm
Tuesday 2/7, 11-2:30pm (note on this day, I'll be in a meeting some of the time, so you'll need to have enough experience to work independently)

It will be fun, you'll get to learn something about the way Nick builds his sculptures, and I'll have some coffee on hand to keep us all alert. Feel free to come for a brief time or for a longer time. I've attached a few photos that can give you a feel for the building process.

If you can help out, drop me a line and let me know when you might come so that I have an idea of who to expect when (since I will need to soak an appropriate number of coffee stirrers ahead of time to make them flexible enough to use). Please feel free to invite friends or to forward this email to anyone you think might be interested.

Videographer needed for wedding

Looking for someone to video and make a wedding DVD -- probably 8 hours.  Music throughout it except for the ceremony, during which coupld would like to be microphoned up in order to be able to hear vows.
