This is by no means an exhaustive list of all local internships, competitions, etc.  It is simply an archive of opportunities that have been compiled by various faculty and staff, or that have been to sent directly to AIB from companies looking to specifically recruit AIB students and alumni.

AIB Portfolio Scholarship Competition

The AIB Portfolio Scholarship Competition opens today,  Monday, April 29!

This is a juried competition in which portfolios are judged on their artistic merit by AIB faculty and/or other visual art professionals.

Recipients will received tuition reduction in the awarded amount for academic year 2013-2014

The theme of The Boston Biennial 2012 is Illuminating Worlds. 

 

We The Biennial Project have light which we pass onto others (that's you). As The Biennial Project's own light shines, we give other people permission to do the same. Our spotlight spills over to all around us and we want the world to see you through us.

 

Did you ever turn on the kitchen lights and watch the roaches scatter in all directions. Things lurk in the dark and when the lights go on shit gets exposed. Whether you worship the sun or think Jesus is the Son of God, we all know we can't live in the dark. Expose your inner self to the world around us. 

 

Remember we are only as sick as our secrets.

 

Also don't be beholden to the theme. We just needed to come up something that sounded important.

 

Eligibility

Open to all artists.  Open to all media, including 2-D, 3-D, sculpture, photography, performance, video, installation mixed media, and art from a kit. All works must arrive properly labeled with name, address, phone, email, and title of work, medium, and price, if applicable.  All work must be secured with appropriate hanging hardware in place and ready to hang.  Entry and release forms must be completed, signed, and accompanied by appropriate fee.

 

Reproduction of Art Work

The Biennial Project reserves the right to reproduce submitted works for Biennial Project printed materials, advertisements, electronic media, internet, television, catalog, DVD, and magazine.  Copyright and other rights remain that of the artist.

 

Selection Process

Work will be selected from actual art.  Jurying will involve viewing the entries individually and making determinations on the basis on the work.

Someone else - We are working out the details with a very, very important Boston Art Big Shot.

 

Drop Off, Notification and Pickup of Art Work

All entries will be juried from actual work dropped off at Spencer Lofts Gallery, ground floor, 60 Dudley St, Chelsea MA, Sunday and Monday Dec. 2-3 from noon to 6pm. Notification of acceptance will be posted on our blog by 5pm Wednesday Dec 5th. All art not accepted can be picked up at the gallery on December 15th from 3-6pm.

 

Fees

There is a non-refundable $25 entry fee for one submission per artist. Make checks payable to The Biennial Project, memo "The Boston Biennial." Sales are encouraged.  A 20% commission will be deducted to support the very important work of The Biennial Project.

Scholarship Opportunity with Frame My Future

This contest is open to all college students who are attending a U.S. college or university as a full-time student for the 2013-2014 academic year. Entrants must be a legal U.S. resident.

 

The entry period is October 2, 2012 to March 5, 2013

 

To enter this contest, create an original entry piece that shares with us what you want to achieve in your personal and professional life after college. Follow the theme: This is how I "Frame My Future." Your creation must be submitted through the online entry form, within one image, in a .JPG or .PNG format, and must be fully viewable and/or readable online. The entry form also includes a section to submit a short accompanying description of your entry piece (maximum of 500 characters). Some example entry piece ideas:

·         photograph ·         collage ·         poem ·         drawing ·         painting

·         graphic design ·         short, typed essay ·         scrapbook style page ·         anything you create within one image

Please Note: The complete and overall entry piece must be original and the entrant's own work. For example, do not submit a company advertisement, photo you found online, or stock art as your sole and final entry piece. You may incorporate these elements within your creative entry. Submission of an entry piece that is not the entrant’s own original work, may result in disqualification. A professional portrait, such as a senior photo, will not be accepted as an entry. These are owned by the photographer.

Prizes: $6,000 in Scholarships! We will be awarding $1,000 scholarships to five "success-driven" students! One of these five students (Grand Prize Winner) will also earn a matching $1,000 donation for their 2013-2014 attended college or university! This donation goes to the school's general scholarship endowment fund, on behalf of the Grand Prize Winner. All 24 Finalists (5 Scholarship Winners and remaining 19 Finalists) will also receive a commemorative "Frame My Future" frame featuring their entry.

Church Hill Classics will select 24 entries to be named Finalists. Finalist judging is based on entry piece and accompanying description in accordance with the contest guidelines, relation to the 'Frame My Future" theme, and the most creative entries deemed by the judges.

The public then votes for their favorite Finalist Entry during a one month voting period: April 2 - May 2, 2013. The five entries with the most votes will each earn a $1,000 scholarship. The top vote-getter also earns the $1,000 scholarship. The top vote-getter also earns the $1,000 donation for their school!

Denali's 2nd Annual Design-A-Throw Competition

The Denali Home Collection is a division of Monterey Mills. The collection was launched in 1998 in exclusive boutiques and furniture stores. Our throws are recognized as distinctive gift items due to their plush feel and large size.  Denali offers Rustic, Western, Home Decor, Natical lines and is now introducing an Americana line.  Winning designers could see their throws become part of this new and exclusive collection.

The Design Concept:

Students create "Americana" themed print designs for a Home Furnishing line of throws.  The top designers win large cash prizes (listed below) and the winning print designs will be featured in future DENALI HOME COLLECTIONS.


Student Assignment:

Can you design a print for a home furnishing throw?  The DENALI HOME COLLECTION offers the Rustic, Western, Home Décor and Nautical Collections and will be introducing an Americana line.  Students may develop as many prints as desired.  Each print must have a maximum of 4 colors. 

Students entries must have an "Americana" theme for 2012.  

Student Awards:

A total of $3,500 in cash prizes will be awarded to winning students. The entries will be judged by Denali/Monterey’s Management and Executive teams.  The awards will be:

• (1) Grand Prize: $1,000
• (3) 2nd Place Awards:  $500 each
• (5) 3rd Place Awards:  $200 each
• (?) Honorable Mentions: We have the option of granting any number of Honorable Mentions and awarding prizes for them.

Eligible Students & College Programs:

Any college student enrolled in a 2012 Fall Semester of any textiles, fashion, interior design, graphic design, or any related program in the United States and who will be at least 18 years of age at the time of entry.  

Entry Requirements:

• A completed entry/release form.

• An 8 1/2” X 11” hand drawn board, jpeg file, or Adobe Illustrator digital file.  Any other files must be printed and displayed on an 8” X 11” board.

Rules:

• Any student of an eligible program may participate in the competition.

• Winners will be judged on originality of print, creativity, layout of print on 60” x 70” throw and Monterey Mills ability to market the design to its current and future customer bases.

• All entries must be submitted by and represent the original work of a student enrolled in a college fashion or graphics program for the Fall Semester 2012.

• All original artwork must be professionally presented.

• All Students must work within specific deadlines, criteria and entry requirements established by Monterey Mills.

• Entry constitutes permission to use winners’ names and photographs of the design entries for press, web exposure and marketing on behalf of Monterey Mills.

• Prizes are non-transferable.

• All decisions made by judges are final and may not be disputed.

• Incomplete entries will be disqualified.

Competition Timeline:

• September, 2012:          Fall semesters begin.  Colleges receiving scholarship donations provide students the competition assignment and send a copy to info@designathrow.com.

• November 1, 2012:      All entries must be postmarked by this date to be eligible.

• December, 2012:          At least nine winners will be chosen and contacted by phone or e-mail.

Students must submit a Registration, Assignment and Release Form for each Entry.
