Submit to the Square Inches of Love Exhibition

 

OPeX studios, a child-centric architectural design entity in Los Angeles is inviting individuals, companies, and organizations around the world to digitally submit visual content to the Square Inches of Love project, an innovative exhibition project making a large, optimistic public demonstration that the responsible use of new tools at our disposal can deliver a better tomorrow for our children.

This project’s design generates multiple levels of value from collected contributions which spans across business, pleasure, creativity, expression, education & philanthropy. Submissions fill a virtual exhibition space representing one million square inches that, when full, will be transformed into a full-scale 3D physical exhibition and taken on tour across the U.S.

NOTICE: Updates on Project M in Belfast, Maine

PROJECT M
Project M is a program for young creative people who are already inspired to contribute to the greater good, and are looking for a platform to collaborate and generate ideas and projects bigger then themselves. 

FORMAT
Project M Belfast Blitz will be a 5 day long workshop session in Belfast, ME with 10–12 creative people starting March, 12th and finishing on March, 17st. The Project M Facilitator for this is Marc O’Brien. Ben Gaydos will be the AIB coordinator/Project M Facilitator.

THINKING WRONG
The human brain tends to think along predetermined linear thought pathways. Such linear thinking can inhibit true innovation and creative exploration. Project M will encourage, and provide techniques for “thinking wrong” to generate new ideas and design directions.

WHO SHOULD JOIN PROJECT M?
This workshop was developed for passionate young creative people. Students and professionals from any industries encourage to apply.

FEES
Project M is not a school and has no tuition. Every attending person will share the expenses of producing Project M. The expenses will be $600 each. Some M’ers have been very creative about raising this amount. Travel to and from Belfast, ME and incidental expenses are in addition to this amount. Housing, group meals, and project materials are included.

Artist Opportunity via The Art Connection

The Art Connection is adapting the Swiss Institute’s model to encourage new and continuing art collectors by playing bingo for original fine artwork. Jurors will select 12 works of art to be included in an Art Bingo fundraising event. The night of the event, each bingo game will be played for a specific piece of artwork, and the winning collectors will take work home that night! Artwork donations support the work of The Art Connection… stimulating dialogue, creativity, learning, and healing by placing original artwork in social service agencies in the Greater Boston area.

About The Art Connection

The Art Connection enriches and empowers under-served communities by expanding access to original works of art. We facilitate the choice of art, from artists and other donors, for those who may not have the opportunity to experience the transformative possibilities of art in their lives.  In our 16 years of bringing art to life, we have celebrated the placement over 5,200 original works of art in over 300 agencies, by over 330 art donors.

Jurors
Michele Cohen, Ph.D., is a public art consultant, independent scholar, and curator, who has written on American art, women artists, contemporary art and public art. The founding Director of New York City's Public Art for Public Schools program (1989-2009), she recently authored the first history of New York City public school art and architecture, Public Art for Public Schools (The Monacelli Press, 2009). Before launching Michele Cohen Art, she was an Assistant Professor of Arts Administration and Director of the Trustman Gallery at Simmons College.

Steven Zevitas is the President and Publisher of the New American Paintings- a juried exhibition in print, which he founded in order to inform art collectors about emerging artists. Steven Zevitas Gallery was founded in 2003 in Boston’s South End. The gallery exhibits and represents artists from throughout the United States and has been participating in art fairs including Aqua Art Fair Miami in 2007 and 2008; the Next Art Fair Chicago in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011; and the Volta NY Art Fair in 2010 and 2011.

10th Biennial Exchange - 2012 Global Art Project for Peace

Project Mission

The mission of the Global Art Project is to joyously create a culture of peace through art. The Project spreads world peace by promoting tolerance and non-violence. The Global Art Project is an expression of the idea: We Are All One.

Project Description

Anyone can participate!

The Global Art Project is an International Art Exchange for Peace. Here's how it works: Participants create a work of art in any medium, expressing their vision of global peace and goodwill. The art is displayed locally in each participant’s community. Global Art Project then organizes an international exchange by matching participants—group-to-group and individual-to-individual. The exchange occurs April 23-30 biennially, resulting in thousands of people sending messages of Peace around the world at one time—visions of unity simultaneously encircle the Earth. The art is sent as a gift of global friendship and exhibited in the receiving community.

Participants may send documentation of the art created and of the people who came together to create the art to the GAP Art Bank. Global Art Project exhibitions, books, slide presentations, and this website give people an opportunity to experience visions of peace and unity created by individuals from diverse cultures around the world.

How to Participate

Registration for the next exchange in April 2012 will begin in May 2011.

First, register by February 29, 2012. GAP will match you with a participant. Participants in the US and Canada are required to include a minimum US $15 donation for individuals and US $20 donation for groups. Participants in other countries are asked to send a donation if possible.

March 2012: Create a work of art expressing your personal vision of global peace and goodwill. The art may be in any medium -- visual or literary art, audio or videotapes/CDs of performances, etc. -- which can be sent from one group or individual to another.

April 1-22, 2012: Display/share your work locally in your own community. This could be on the walls at work or school, in a hospital, a public library, gallery, bank, local café or restaurant -- wherever you feel comfortable sharing your vision. You may want to join together with a group of participants to find a place where you can display your work together.

April 23-30, 2012: Exchange your art with the person or group with whom you've been matched. The art you receive will be yours to keep, and likewise, the art you send off will be kept as a gift of global friendship. It would be nice to include a photo of yourself and a personal note.

Finally, as a completion of the Global Art Project for Peace exchange, you may choose to display the art which you've received so that people in your community have an opportunity to experience the diverse visions of global unity from around the world.

You may document your art and the people who created it to be included in the GAP Art Bank. Label the documentary material with name, address, medium and size. Send it to the GAP address. Materials will not be returned.


Global Art Project Angel Corps

You could also participate in the Angel Corps. Here's how it works: If a person or group hasn't heard from their GAP exchange partner by the end of June, they could contact us and we'll connect them with a group or individual in the Angel Corps who will send them artwork. People may register to participate in either the exchange, the Angel Corps…or both. Angel Corps participants are angels because they will create and send art, although they know they won't receive anything from the person or group to whom they're sending their art...it's purely an act of love and generosity.

To participate in the Angel Corps, fill out a separate GAP Registration via Mail Form and write “Angel Corps” on it with a highlighter. We’ll contact you after June 2012 to let you know where to send your art. No fee is required to participate in the Angel Corps.

The Say Something Poster Project - Season 2 Call for Entries

The Say Something Poster Project is a poster design competition and gallery show created to give designers the opportunity to "say something" that will inspire, motivate and educate the next generation. 

Winning posters will be donated to a non-profit organization and permanently installed in their facility.  Posters go through 3 rounds of judging to determine 25 semifinalists and 10 winner. Designers that reach the semifinal and final rounds will be awarded with an assortment of design tools and resources.  The top 25 posters will take part in The Poster Show, a gallery show of  finalists from The Say Something Poster Project.

There is no cost to enter the competition.

This year's theme: "This Way Forward" - refers to the sharing of an idea that enables someone to make progress, wehther by learning rom the past, moving in a direction of proven success or inventing a whole new path.

Lesley/AIB Alcohol Awareness week T-Shirt Design Contest

Want to win $100 gift card to Blick? Come up with the graphic for a t-shirt to promote alcohol awareness, and it’s yours!

Lesley and AIB were awarded an NCAA CHOICES grant to promote safer use of alcohol on campus. This is National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week and we’re looking for a graphic to go with the slogan “Think before you drink, your CHOICES count.”

Entries must be received by Friday, October 21st. The winner will be determined by the following Friday, October 28th.

Fishing for a Cure - Call for Donations

The Kyrie Foundation is a Midwest-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit raising global research funds to cure children’s brain cancer. The organization is in need of art for their upcoming 4th annual Art+Gift Auction on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Studio 2131 in Kansas City, Mo. Live music by the Blue Sea Fishermen’s Union.

Past years have included donations from Amy Butler, Shepard Fairey, Nate Williams, Grady McFerrin, Jill McDonald, Rob Ryan, Jessica Hische, Keri Smith, Julia Pott and many more benevolent artists. They are happy to accept photography, oil, pastel, watercolor, ink, charcoal, paper art, letterpress, mixed media, screenprints, signed giclees—whatever you are willing to give. Framed pieces are heartily appreciated but certainly not mandatory.

Pediatric brain cancer is the #1 cancer-killer of of children and being described as the “new leukemia” to children. Research is grossly under-funded. That’s why they’re asking for our help. Funds raised from this event go toward the Kyrie Foundation Tissue Bank Fund with the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation of the U.S., which makes possible research with qualifying doctoral teams from leading children’s cancer institutions, like Duke University, University of California-San Francisco, Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, St. Jude’s Research Hospital, MD Andersonand other leading cancer-fighting divisions. Progress is updated via their Web site, www.kyriefoundation.org.

Donating artists will receive public credit/bio, space to display business cards, listing on their Web site, ticket site, blog and Facebook page, tax receipt, and artists will set the value of their piece/s and recommend opening bid/s. If you happen to be in the Kansas City area that evening, you and a guest will also receive free entrance to the event. Donations need to arrive to the Kyrie Foundation by October 15.
