Description: This is an all media exhibition that celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Target Gallery. This is open to all artists nationally and internationally. Artists are asked to submit work that responds to world events that have occurred over the past 25 years.

A special catalog and poster will acompany this exhibition.

Juror: J.W. Mahoney is an artist, critic and independent curator who serves as Washington's Corresponding Editor for Art in America. He is an Affiliate Professor of Visual Arts at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, and his latest exhibition, "Carceral," will open at Curator's Office in Washington in May of this year.

AIB Massachusetts Avenue Storefront Art Project

A juried exhibition celebrating The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University’s
Centennial Year and upcoming move to Porter Square

 

Calling AIB students, alumni, faculty and staff!

As you may know, The Art Institute of Boston will be moving from Kenmore Square to the Lesley University campus in Porter Square in the next few years.  In addition, in the 2012/13 academic year, AIB will be celebrating its Centennial year, having educated artists and designers since 1912.  To celebrate our 100^th year and to prepare for our move to Porter Square, we are hosting the AIB Massachusetts Avenue Storefront Art Project in the fall of 2012.

 

We are very excited about our future neighborhood and would like to start building relationships with our new neighbors. Towards this goal, we will mount exhibitions in many storefront windows along Massachusetts Avenue near Lesley’s University Hall and Doble campuses.  The goal of the project is to showcase a vibrant, exciting group of storefront exhibitions created by the AIB community all along this portion of Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge. All current AIB students, alumni, faculty, and staff members are invited to submit a proposal for a storefront display.  Work in all media is encouraged.  A stipend of $250 will be awarded to all proposals selected.

 

From the Doble Campus along Massachusetts Avenue up to the Porter Square Shopping Center, selected storefront windows will display work created by AIB students, alumni, faculty and staff.  Already, a number of stores have offered to host exhibits in their storefront windows and we expect more to commit to such exhibitions in the coming weeks. Each store boasts a unique personality and takes great pride in the presentation of their windows to the public. These windows are their connection to the outside world, and attract passers-by with their beautiful displays. Storefronts have been selected based on visual potential, their eagerness to work with our artists, and their willingness to let the artwork take the lead.

 

So, we invite you to submit your most compelling work! Work may be two- or three-dimensional such as painting, prints, or photographs; videos or animations; illustration or design pieces; sculptures or site-specific installations; to name a few. You may offer work you have already created or you may choose to create something entirely new for this event. Proposals may be submitted by individuals or by collaborative teams.

 

Submissions will be accepted online from Thursday, May 17 until Friday, June 22.  The application portal can be reached at aib.slideroom.com. Be sure to select AIB Storefront Art Project under Active Programs. Submission costs are $10 per proposal, which will let you upload up to 10 images and supporting documents. Check back frequently as we are actively adding new host windows. Windows sizes range from small, enclosed bays to large, floor-to-ceiling panes that extend across the width of the store. Photos of participating windows are available on our project blog.

 

Winning submissions will be selected by a jury and will be paired up with appropriate host windows.

Selected proposals will be notified by August 1, and will be put in touch with their host business to work out the details. Each window is different and the relationship between the store’s displayed product and artwork will be defined in collaboration with the host business. Work will likely be installed in early September and removed in mid-October. Actual dates may shift slightly and will be verified shortly. Each display will include a specially designed placard with the name of the artist(s), their relationship to AIB (student, alumni, faculty, etc.), a brief artist statement, and the AIB/Lesley logos.

Call for Films: 2012 Glovebox Short Film & Animation Festival

Hear ye’ Hear ye’, Glovebox announces the call for films for the 2012 Glovebox Short Film & Animation Festival that will be held on August 4th, 2012 at the Somerville Theatre in Davis Square.  Artists of all shapes and sizes are encouraged to apply IF their film is under 25 minutes.  What’s that you say?  You have a music video?  YES we accept!   You’re a student?  GREAT - you’ll receive a discount entry fee AND you will be judged with the rest of the herd. Students, consider yourself “babied” no longer.  This is a juried festival by the elite of the elite who look down and judge you.... honestly.   I know, it’s hard for us to grasp too.  So in the name of getting something done this year, submit your hard work and reap the rewards!

About the Glovebox Film Festival: The Glovebox Short Film and Animation Festival began in 2011 as a platform for film artists and animators to exhibit their work.  the festival received rave reviews from the community, prompting Glovebox to make it an annual event.  Attracting over 300 visitors and  including over 50 northeast artists from Boston, Cambridge, Somerville and New York, the one day event is an opportunity for all to learn about the artists in their community.  Inspired by the Sala Mont Juic festival in Barcelona Spain, the festival encourages the shared collection of films through minimal cost to the public.  To learn more about the festival, log onto www.glvbx.com.

About Glovebox:  Glovebox is a non-profit organization that enables artists to exhibit their work in non-traditional spaces in the Boston area. We have two objectives: to increase awareness of artists and their work and to improve the accessibility of art. Glovebox achieves these goals by bringing together artists and the public to form a collaborative, educational community. Our methods range from the individual, such as helping artists to exhibit their work, to the collective, in which we have organized group exhibitions, film festivals and fund-raising auctions to raise money for fellow non-profits with humanitarian missions.

Call for Entries: Portrait Show at Gallery 263.

One definition for portrait is the likeness of a person, or a description of someone's character. For Gallery 263's Portrait Show we leave it to you to interpret this traditional genre. We love people, and believe there are a multitude of ways to represent a person. Now's your chance to show us yours. Nancy Ellen Craig will guest juror, a distinguished portrait artist who has worked professionally for over forty years and is still active at 84.

Eligibility

• 2D (painting, drawing, photography, etc.): Dimensions no greater than 48" x 48" including frame (if framed). No media restrictions (40 lbs. max). MUST be ready to hang (framed, wired, etc.).
• 3D (sculpture, assemblage): MUST be self-supportive or mountable; maximum of 108" height, maximum width / depth of 30". 
• Time Media : No length restrictions. To submit, mail five minutes or less of video OR audio piece on a DVD/flashdrive to Gallery 263 or arrange to send submission electronically. See address instructions below.

This is a national call. Residents of the United States are eligible.

How to apply

Submission deadline is April 30, 2012 by 5PM. Artists may submit up to 3 jpegs (1 additional view per entry allowed for 3D work). No more than one piece will be included per artist. Image submissions MUST be in jpeg format, high quality, approximately 1 MB large.

Submission includes a $25 fee (non-refundable, includes up to three entries).

Call for Entries - 8th Annual Boston Bike Film Festival

Organizers of the 8th Annual Boston Bike Film Festival have asked filmmakers with a cycling habit to submit their work to be shown October 12, 2012, at the historic Regent Theatre in Arlington.  Film submissions are due September 1, 2012. The event is a fundraiser for state-wide and national cycling advocacy groups, including MassBike and Bikes Not Bombs. Film concepts from last year's festival ranged from a young man attempting re-learn to ride, to an animated film about a cute bike that moves in next door, a couple of international documentaries, and everything in between.  Among the benefits for acclaimed and amateur filmmakers, the Festival offers a chance to get their films in front of audiences who are intrigued and influential to the quality of cycling nationwide.  So Come Pedal Your Film!  And see the next generation of cycling films!

If art exists in movement, then the bicycle becomes a vehicle for creativity. The Boston Bike Film Festival exists as a creative outlet for filmmakers to present their work in a personal yet professional format. Since its inception in 1997, the Boston Bike Film Festival has succeeded in bringing cycling-related topics to the silver screen and thus has given audiences a "bigger picture" of the culture of cycling through the medium of film.

Call for Entries: Push, Pull Play at Torpedo Factory Art Center

CALL FOR ENTRIES:
In celebration of VA Commission for the Arts Minds Wide Open Celebration of Children and the Arts, the gallery will host an exhibition that focuses on interactive, kinetic, toy inspired art.  This is an all media show that examines the art of the toy, open to all artists nationally and internationally.

Juror: Prescott Trudeau
Prescott Trudeau is the full-time Curator of Children’s Museum of the Arts (CMA), a non-profit museum located in Lower Manhattan. The museum’s mission is to extend the benefits of the arts to all children and their communities and does so through a variety of programs, including professional exhibitions of both adult’s and children’s artwork. Prescott’s past exhibitions include Art Within Reach: From the WPA to the Present, an exhibition of children’s art created during the 1930s under the auspices of the WPA’s Federal Art Project alongside children’s art created in 2010 and Make Art (In) Public, an exhibition exploring the impact of the arts on building and bettering communities, with participating artists Swoon,
Christo & Jeanne-Claude, Keith Haring, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Remed, Tranqui Yanqui, and Moondog. He is currently planning CMA’s next exhibition, which will feature new work by the Japanese artist Misaki Kawai.

A commission of 40% will be taken on all works sold as a result of this exhibition. Payment will be mailed to the artist within 30 days of the exhibition closing. Works are insured while in Target Gallery. Artists are required to sign a Loan Agreement and a Terms & Condition Agreement if accepted.  The Target Gallery will keep the CD of accepted works and reserves the right to reproduce the images for all media and publicity purposes. Artwork must have been made within the last five years.

Call to Artists: Outwitting History

A Zullo Gallery Center for the Arts / Medfield Memorial Public Library Juried Exhibition
Open to all artists!

Outwitting History by Aaron Lansky is Medfield's very first 'one town one book' selection. This true story of a young Massachusetts man's project to gather Yiddish books turns into a far-reaching mission to help preserve a dying culture. As he picks up books from an older generation of immigrants he hears stories of family, homeland, politics, religion, language, and art. In other words, all that is dear to them.

Culture is the summation of who we are collectively, the pieces that were passed on to us from past generations and what we in turn pass on to the next generation. So as a community we will be exploring who we are, how we came to be here, and what we wish to pass on.

Entries should reflect on the theme of your own personal cultural legacy:
Where do you come from? • What is your heritage? • Who are your people? • What is your past?

TO ENTER:

The outwitting history juried exhibition is open to all artists (18 years or older) working in all mediums. Applicants may submit up to three works - on CD or as photographic prints or by email (files must be in .jpg form with a resoluation of at least 300 dpi). Work must have been created within the past two years. The gallery requests a $20 donation from each applicant. Check should be made payable to the Zullo Gallery.

Each application must include:
1. Artist's name, address, phone number, and email address
2. Title, size, medium, and date each work was completed.

2011 graduates and students currently enrolled in undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education programs in advertising, graphic design, photography, illustration, and new media are eligible for the competition, and are invited to submit published or unpublished work in any category.  Student entries mirror professional categories and are judged by the best talents in the education/professional world. Winning an ADC Cube is a great way to show the world your vision and talent.

School of the Year Award
Each year, ADC bestows Design Firm of the Year, Advertising Agency of the Year, Network of the Year, Interactive Agency of the Year based upon cumulative points for winning work that year. ADC awards School of the Year! Don't miss this opportunity!

JUDGING STANDARDS AND AWARDS
Student work will be judged separately but by the same criteria and juries as professional work. All student winners will be included in the Art Directors Annual 91. Higher award winners (Gold, Silver, and Bronze) will be included in the New York and traveling exhibitions and in related advertising and promotional materials.

The McGladrey Art Gallery - Call to Artists

The McGladrey Art Gallery at Bentley University requests proposals for exhibitions for the 2012 – 2013 season. This request is open to artists and independent curators presenting contemporary work in any medium.

Exhibition proposal guidelines:
- A brief (1-2 paragraph) description of the artwork
- Up to eight images supporting your proposal
- A short bio (1 paragraph) for each artist and curator
- Contact information

Artists/curators are responsible for delivering, shipping, installing, and deinstalling their work, and for all related costs. Bentley University will provide labor assistance with exhibition install and deinstall.
Artists must provide their own materials (monitors, video equipment, hanging hardware, etc.).
Due to the location of the gallery within the Bentley University Library, all artwork with sound components must have headphones.
Work must be attached to the wall, and cannot be freestanding within the space
