Denali's 2nd Annual Design-A-Throw Competition

The Denali Home Collection is a division of Monterey Mills. The collection was launched in 1998 in exclusive boutiques and furniture stores. Our throws are recognized as distinctive gift items due to their plush feel and large size.  Denali offers Rustic, Western, Home Decor, Natical lines and is now introducing an Americana line.  Winning designers could see their throws become part of this new and exclusive collection.

The Design Concept:

Students create "Americana" themed print designs for a Home Furnishing line of throws.  The top designers win large cash prizes (listed below) and the winning print designs will be featured in future DENALI HOME COLLECTIONS.


Student Assignment:

Can you design a print for a home furnishing throw?  The DENALI HOME COLLECTION offers the Rustic, Western, Home Décor and Nautical Collections and will be introducing an Americana line.  Students may develop as many prints as desired.  Each print must have a maximum of 4 colors. 

Students entries must have an "Americana" theme for 2012.  

Student Awards:

A total of $3,500 in cash prizes will be awarded to winning students. The entries will be judged by Denali/Monterey’s Management and Executive teams.  The awards will be:

• (1) Grand Prize: $1,000
• (3) 2nd Place Awards:  $500 each
• (5) 3rd Place Awards:  $200 each
• (?) Honorable Mentions: We have the option of granting any number of Honorable Mentions and awarding prizes for them.

Eligible Students & College Programs:

Any college student enrolled in a 2012 Fall Semester of any textiles, fashion, interior design, graphic design, or any related program in the United States and who will be at least 18 years of age at the time of entry.  

Entry Requirements:

• A completed entry/release form.

• An 8 1/2” X 11” hand drawn board, jpeg file, or Adobe Illustrator digital file.  Any other files must be printed and displayed on an 8” X 11” board.

Rules:

• Any student of an eligible program may participate in the competition.

• Winners will be judged on originality of print, creativity, layout of print on 60” x 70” throw and Monterey Mills ability to market the design to its current and future customer bases.

• All entries must be submitted by and represent the original work of a student enrolled in a college fashion or graphics program for the Fall Semester 2012.

• All original artwork must be professionally presented.

• All Students must work within specific deadlines, criteria and entry requirements established by Monterey Mills.

• Entry constitutes permission to use winners’ names and photographs of the design entries for press, web exposure and marketing on behalf of Monterey Mills.

• Prizes are non-transferable.

• All decisions made by judges are final and may not be disputed.

• Incomplete entries will be disqualified.

Competition Timeline:

• September, 2012:          Fall semesters begin.  Colleges receiving scholarship donations provide students the competition assignment and send a copy to info@designathrow.com.

• November 1, 2012:      All entries must be postmarked by this date to be eligible.

• December, 2012:          At least nine winners will be chosen and contacted by phone or e-mail.

Students must submit a Registration, Assignment and Release Form for each Entry.

Art on the Roof Call for Entry

Open to New England-based Artists

Art on the Roof announces a Call for Entry for a one-night juried exhibition on Thursday, September 27, 2012 hosted at MassChallenge, and benefiting Dot Art. Art on the Roof connects emerging, contemporary artists and community members at intimate rooftop events throughout North America, while benefiting a local non-profit.

Jurist, Russell LaMontagne, of LaMontagne Gallery and Boston Contemporary Group, will make the selections for this group show. We are seeking emerging and established New England-based artists who are creating original 2D and 3D works in any medium. Submit your best work from the last 2 years that will come alive against the backdrop of the Boston harbor and the ICA at sunset.

Brillo® Offers Artists Their Chance at 15 Minutes of Fame

WALLED LAKE, MICH, July 16, 2012 – "In the future, everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.” Andy Warhol, 1968.  In today’s hyper-connected world of social media, 24 hour news channels, YouTube and reality TV, Warhol’s predication seems more likely than ever before.  The latest opportunity for fame comes from what may seem like an unlikely source.  Brillo®, one of the world’s most trusted and well known household cleaning brands introduces the 15 Minutes of Fame contest. 
 
Brillo wants to offer artists their own chance at fame.  Brillo is calling all artists to create and submit an original Cover Design for a limited-edition commemorative book which will celebrate Brillo’s 100 year anniversary in 2013.  The contest winner will receive a $1,000 Visa® gift card and 10 copies of the book, but more importantly, the winning design will also be displayed in the Andy Warhol Museum for one month and could potentially be seen by more than 100,000 visitors.  Second prize is a $500 Visa gift card and two copies of the book and third prize is a $250 Visa gift card and two copies of the book. Entries may be submitted July 16, 2012 through August 17, 2012 through Brillo’s Facebook page: Facebook.com/Brillo. Winners will be announced September 10, 2012.

Participants must be 18 years of age and may only submit one design.  In addition, Brillo is asking for site visitors to submit photos of their own creative uses for Brillo (i.e. pin-cushion, texturizing and staining hardwood floors).  The most interesting photos may also be included in the book and the person who submitted the photo will receive free Brillo products and their own free copy of the anniversary book.

Submit to the Strait Talk Art Exhibition

Strait Talk is a nonprofit organization that brings together young leaders from mainland China, Taiwan and the United States to engage in dialogue over cross-Strait relations. 

This year, we are hosting an art exhibition for the 2012 Strait Talk Symposium. We are asking for submissions of artwork from art students that reflects upon cross-Strait relations. There is little requirement on the nature of the artwork, for example, it could reflect a personal experience, culture, customs, or politics, but it must deal with relations between China and Taiwan. 

Selected pieces will be on display at the Granoff Center at Brown University for a month, from late October through late November. A few pieces will also be published in Visions magazine, a student-run Asian/Asian-American arts publication at Brown.

MGH Pediatric Epilepsy Program Seeks Children's Book Illustrator

The Pediatric Epilepsy Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital is working to write a book for children with epilepsy.  They are in the process of looking for an illustrator for the book.  If interested, please contact Julianna Shinnick at jushinnick@vassar.edu.  This is a great volunteering opportunity with the chance to be published.

The Coaster Project, Destination: The World

Ten years ago TransCultural Exchange's launched one of the largest democratic, global art projects in the world: 'The Coaster Project, Destination: The World'.

For that project, more than 99 artists transcended geographical, political and cultural boundaries to stage 99+ exhibitions throughout the world. Afterwards, all 10,000+ art works were given away in the guise of "coasters" at bars, cafes and restaurants.

To celebrate, TransCultural Exchange will stage a 10 year anniversary exhibit and give-away of 'The Coaster Project, Destination: The World' at Toronto's '2012 Culture Works Festival,' which is part of the BIG on Bloor Festival. The original "Coaster Project" artists have already been asked to contribute; and, we would like to add to that roster.

Coasters MUST arrive no later than July 10, 2012. Please include your mailing and email address with your submission; so that we can send you updates on the project.

All coaster/artworks will be exhibited and all coasters will be given out at the festival. Festival-goers can take one; and/or make one of their own for someone else to take. In addition, TransCultural will print out cards, explaining the original project.

Design the 'body' for LimoLand's Mr. Limo

LimoLand, the fashion/lifestyle brand whose identity is represented by the face of Mr Limo is sold in some of the most celebrated stores around the world including Colette in Paris, The Webster in Miami and Fred Segal/Ron Herman in Los Angeles and Mr Porter. Now to complete Mr Limo, LimoLand is searching for a 'body'. LimoLand Founder Jean Pigozzi, Director Brett Ratner and Dinesh Shamdasani are inviting artists and designers around the world to submit their most creative and imaginative 'body' design taking inspiration from Mr Limo himself (as displayed below and downloadable here). One winner will have their design become the official 'body' for Mr Limo, thus creating the new and complete Mr Limo. The winning design will be produced and displayed in the LimoLand store in New York and in addition the winner will receive $2,000.

The winning design will be produced and displayed in the LimoLand store in New York. In addition the winner will receive:

• Exposure on Limoland’s social media channels
• $2,000

One runner-up, as selected by the hosts, will receive exposure on Limoland’s social media channels, in addition to $500.

A second runner-up as selected by the hosts, will receive exposure on Limoland’s social media channels, in addition to $250.

The highest voted designer will receive exposure on Limoland’s social media channels, in addition to $750.
