AIB Massachusetts Avenue Storefront Art Project

A juried exhibition celebrating The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University’s
Centennial Year and upcoming move to Porter Square

 

Calling AIB students, alumni, faculty and staff!

As you may know, The Art Institute of Boston will be moving from Kenmore Square to the Lesley University campus in Porter Square in the next few years.  In addition, in the 2012/13 academic year, AIB will be celebrating its Centennial year, having educated artists and designers since 1912.  To celebrate our 100^th year and to prepare for our move to Porter Square, we are hosting the AIB Massachusetts Avenue Storefront Art Project in the fall of 2012.

 

We are very excited about our future neighborhood and would like to start building relationships with our new neighbors. Towards this goal, we will mount exhibitions in many storefront windows along Massachusetts Avenue near Lesley’s University Hall and Doble campuses.  The goal of the project is to showcase a vibrant, exciting group of storefront exhibitions created by the AIB community all along this portion of Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge. All current AIB students, alumni, faculty, and staff members are invited to submit a proposal for a storefront display.  Work in all media is encouraged.  A stipend of $250 will be awarded to all proposals selected.

 

From the Doble Campus along Massachusetts Avenue up to the Porter Square Shopping Center, selected storefront windows will display work created by AIB students, alumni, faculty and staff.  Already, a number of stores have offered to host exhibits in their storefront windows and we expect more to commit to such exhibitions in the coming weeks. Each store boasts a unique personality and takes great pride in the presentation of their windows to the public. These windows are their connection to the outside world, and attract passers-by with their beautiful displays. Storefronts have been selected based on visual potential, their eagerness to work with our artists, and their willingness to let the artwork take the lead.

 

So, we invite you to submit your most compelling work! Work may be two- or three-dimensional such as painting, prints, or photographs; videos or animations; illustration or design pieces; sculptures or site-specific installations; to name a few. You may offer work you have already created or you may choose to create something entirely new for this event. Proposals may be submitted by individuals or by collaborative teams.

 

Submissions will be accepted online from Thursday, May 17 until Friday, June 22.  The application portal can be reached at aib.slideroom.com. Be sure to select AIB Storefront Art Project under Active Programs. Submission costs are $10 per proposal, which will let you upload up to 10 images and supporting documents. Visit our project blog aibstorefrontart.wordpress.com to see more detailed submission guidelines and to see the potential spaces your work may inhabit. Check back frequently as we are actively adding new host windows. Windows sizes range from small, enclosed bays to large, floor-to-ceiling panes that extend across the width of the store. Photos of participating windows are available on our project blog.

 

Winning submissions will be selected by a jury and will be paired up with appropriate host windows.

Selected proposals will be notified by August 1, and will be put in touch with their host business to work out the details. Each window is different and the relationship between the store’s displayed product and artwork will be defined in collaboration with the host business. Work will likely be installed in early September and removed in mid-October. Actual dates may shift slightly and will be verified shortly. Each display will include a specially designed placard with the name of the artist(s), their relationship to AIB (student, alumni, faculty, etc.), a brief artist statement, and the AIB/Lesley logos.

The app development and creative team at Wickedly Sisters is sponsoring a contest to find artists, writers, musicians and animators to expand the storyline of the new iNovel app Spoon and the Moon. MTV Summer Fellowship Program

Introduction: 

The MTV Summer Fellowship Program is a newly created initiative that aims to provide recent college graduates (or soon to be college graduates) with opportunities throughout the MTV organization.  This 10-week program will attract the best and brightest talent with interest in multiple disciplines that encompass everything from business development and strategy to programming and creative development. Ideal candidates will have exceptional verbal and written communication and collaboration skills.  The Summer Fellowship Program will complement the existing internships currently available to college students, deepening MTV’s connection with its audience while helping to identify future network talent.

Program Basics/Requirements:

• 10 week program starting on/around Monday, June 4, 2012 and ending on/around Friday, August 10, 2012.
• Part-time position, 4 days per week (Monday – Thursday), typical business hours are 9:30AM to 5:30PM.
• Open to all students who will be May 2012 graduates.
• Competitive hourly wage.
• Bi-Weekly speaker sessions with MTV/Viacom business leaders.
• Professional mentorship and workshop opportunities.
• Minimum 3.0 GPA.
• Demonstrated leadership abilities, ideally through extracurricular or previous internship experience.

Application Timeline:

• Friday, April 20, 2012 - Deadline to apply, unless otherwise extended by MTV in its sole discretion (applications will be reviewed as they are received)
• Wednesday, April 25, 2012 – Date by which applicants will be notified if selected for an interview
• Friday, May 11, 2012 – Interviewed candidates will be informed of their final status

The Boggy-Fog Gnoo Sketch-Off: Illustrators Wanted!

Enter a fun, imaginative concept sketch of the scene described below and send it in for a shot at winning a commission to illustrate this nutty kids' book, The Boggy-Fog Gnoo!  A quick-n-dirty drawing will do fine.

Did you climb the falumphing flurburly tree that flurb’d and zurb’d your tummy?

(A little red-headed, freckle-faced girl, laughing and giggling, gets tickles and zerberts as she climbs a flurburly tree. I imagined this as a silly-faced, wonky-limbed thing with a jolly grin...but that's just me.)

If your style, imagination and energy are a good fit for this project I'll send it to every project backer for voting—including all the backers you bring to the project! The more backers you invite to vote on your entry (even for just $1), the better your chances.

What's in it for you? I'll commit 20% of the final funded amount to the winning illustrator for 10 original illustrations for the book. Get your friends backing & voting! If the project gets funded you'd be guaranteed at least $1,800.00 (or considerably more) and your work will be published in a book and as a CD sleeve.

Opportunity to Collaborate Internationally with Folk/Blues Artist

Irish artist Dylan Walshe is looking is looking for an artist to make an animation/illustration/arty type video to go with his music.

A part from the journey of creativity itself, this would be an opportunity for an artist to expand into another medium, for their work to be seen by a lot of people in various countries.

Dylan has yet to release his music--a video would be the final addition to doing so.

There is a small budget going into releasing the music, so the video side of it is negotiable.

Animator Needed to Create Short Music Video

Local singer songwriter looking to hire someone to do a music video for a song called Sister’s Hands.

Looking for actual animation of the story line with actual still photography that musician will provide - musician will be asking fan base to contribute by sending in photos of them with their sisters.  Links of videos in the area of what musician is looking for:

The Cast:

Sister #1
She is blonde with blue eyes, straight hair, pouty lips, with a button nose. She is 4 years old in the first verse wearing a little pink dress. She is more of the “princess “of the two sisters.
In second verse she is 16 and wears 80’s clothes- jeans etc… (normal teenage wardrobe - be creative)
By the bridge of the song, she is in her 30’s - dressing still hip, but a little more grown up. She is average weight.

Sister #2
Older sister is 6 years old in the first verse. She has brown wavy thick hair and green eyes. She has pouty lips and a little smaller nose than the younger sister. She wears hip jeans and t shirt (she is more of the rebel feisty tomboy sister)
As teenagers, they wear hip teen clothes.  In their 30’s they are wearing more grown up clothes. You can be creative as you want. She is also average weight.

Notes
The story begins at recess when they link their hands through a fence - this is the image that musician is specifically looking for – wants the audience to see a clear vision of 2 girls with a fence between them locking hands together through it. The fence represents life and how nothing can break the bond that they have. Musician would like this imagery weaving somehow throughout the video.

Graphic Designer position open at Boston Symphony Orchestra

The position is responsible for the execution of assigned projects for the BSO, Boston Pops and Tanglewood brands and will report to the art director. Projects will include print and online advertising, direct mail brochures, postcards, invitation packages, fliers, transit signs, billboards, banners and posters, and many other projects of wide variety for both print and online publication.

Qualifications:  Three to five years of professional graphic design experience required. Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects.  Must possess extensive knowledge of Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign) and Quark Xpress, knowledge of four-color process separation and printing. Bachelor's degree required.
