Congratulations to AIB faculty member Ann Hirsch! Ann and her collaborator, architect Robert Olson, have been chosen as three of the finalists competing for a public artwork dedicated to Edgar Allan Poe which will be installed at Poe Square here in Boston in the coming years.

For a limited time, members of the public can view the proposals and offer comments on each of the finalists' submissions at a blog set up by the Poe Foundation.

REMINDER!!!

AIB’S Annual All Student Meeting takes place on Wednesday, October 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room 215 at 700 Beacon Street.

On behalf of AIB Student Government Leader Sarah Rubenstein, we invite you to an All Student Meeting on Wednesday, October 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Room 215, 700 Beacon Street. This meeting is open to all AIB students.

The Student Government leaders organize these all-student meetings each semester as an opportunity for students to give the administration and faculty of AIB feedback on their entire educational and co-curricular experience at AIB/Lesley.

Please remind your classes of this meeting, and encourage them to participate. In the past this meeting has been very well attended and numerous positive changes in the school have resulted. As usual, pizza lunch will be provided.

All classes normally held between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 5 are cancelled to permit students to attend. In addition, classes scheduled prior to the meeting should be dismissed by 11:15 a.m., and classes scheduled after the meeting should plan to start at 12:45 p.m. to allow students to attend.

Wednesday morning classes held in Room215 must be concluded by 11:00 a.m. on October 5 to allow for set up prior to the meeting.

Remembering Mazur: Artists’ Talk

Michael David will host a three-person talk. David, Joel Janowitz and Betsey Garand will present their personal reflections on the important influences, life and work of Michael Mazur (1935-2009).

Held at the Danforth Museum auditorium during the North American Print Biennial with an opportunity to view the show.

Chuck Holtzman: Drawings, Prints and Sculptures

AIB welcomes 2011 Fine Arts Department Artist-in-Residence Chuck Holtzman, who will be teaching a course in abstract principles of sculpture this spring.

Holtzman is known for his abstract sculptures and works on paper. He has recently held artist-in-residency positions at the Rhode Island School of Design Department of Interior Architecture, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and Wellesley College, among others. Holtzman studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts and has exhibited extensively in New England, including in the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and Whitney Museum of American Art. As part of his residency, Holtzman will have an exhibition at AIB. The show will display about forty works—including drawings, prints, and sculptures—in the AIB Main Gallery.
