Lindsey Messecar, AIB Alumni, recently had a piece included in ImagineFX Magazine. The work was based on a story by Jay Lake called
Green, which is about a young girl that is trained to be an assassin.
Thanks Linsey for the interview and the amazing work!
1. Your current location?
I am currently living in Vernon, Connecticut, which is a few miles away
from where I grew up. I like being in between Boston and New York,
since it makes traveling to either city relativity easy.
2. The last thing you have eaten?
I just had a slice of homemade pizza made with ingredients from Whole Foods... it really doesn't get much better than that.
3. How would you describe your work and/or style?
I think I would best describe my work as realistic fantasy. My main
objective in my paintings and drawings is to create a fantastic
situation that looks believable to the viewer. I mostly paint in oil
on Masonite board, or use graphite on Strathmore paper.
4. What do you like to do when not working?
I'm either at the gym or hanging out at home with my fiancé and my two bunnies.
5. Favorite color?
Holbein's brown pink. Yeah, I know you probably meant a general color, but brown pink is amazing as a flesh tone glaze.
6. Who and/or what are some of your influences?
I am influenced by pretty much everything around me. If I'm looking for
inspiration on a piece, I often listen to music, look through copies of
Spectrum, read science fiction or fantasy novels, browse the internet,
attend conventions... the list is endless. Meeting other artists in the
same field as I am is also very inspiring and motivating.
7. If you could work with another artist on a "dream project", with who and on what would it be?
There are so many people that I would be extremely excited to work
with. I'd love to work with Donato Giancola, Boris Vallejo, Julie Bell,
Dan dos Santos, Michael Whelan, Volkan Baga, John Jude Palancar... I
could make a very extensive list. I think it would be really fun to
collaborate with a group of fantasy artists to make a board game or a
fully illustrated novel.
8. Last book you read?
The last book I read would have to be A Storm of Swords by George R.R.
Martin. If you haven't read the series (A Song of Ice and Fire), I
highly suggest you pick it up. You might even find how the story ends
if George R.R. Martin ever gets around to finishing it.
